It was so good to see Yolanda again and later in the day, Bruno. Neither have changed and both are still as friendly as they have always been. They live in a suburb of Luzern and Yolanda took Jochen and me out and about so that we would know where to walk.
There is this smallish band of forest not far from their home and the next day Jochen and I explored it to our heart's content. Whilst it cannot compare to the high alps, nonetheless, it is beautiful in that very European way. Australians become nostalgic over gums trees (and those huge white gums are magnificent) my heart sings for European forests.
Tuesday Yolanda took me to the market in Luzern and we wandered about the old township. I like Luzern. Whilst it is geared towards tourism, it is not garish, in fact I find it rather elegant and charming with an Italian touch. Yolanda clearly loves her city and enjoys talking about the interesting history that is part of Luzern.
This was more a day for me although both yesterday and today Jochen had two walks each day, either in the local forest or walking along the river towards Luzern.
Tomorrow we head to Geneva again for the deployment exercise. We will arrive there at about 8.00 pm for an almost midnight start. As everybody else has their own car but Jochen and I do not, there was some scrambling as to where we would sleep. The latest is that we will sleep in a garage on site, someone will bring a camp stretcher and Bruno will lend me a sleeping bag. Should be fun. Will let you know how it all went when I get back to Luzern on Sunday. Please wish us luck. The weather is supposed to be reasonable.
